2019 BUDDS CREEK MOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE
It’s winding down. The 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is almost at its end and the eleventh round, the 2019 Budds Creek Motocross, was a defining day to the summer. The Maryland track has been a part of the series for 30 years and its earned a place on the calendar thanks to its challenging layout, sauna-like weather, and a design that requires skill over speed. Eli Tomac clinched his third consecutive 450 MX championship with a stunning 1-1 ride and that’s by far the big news of the weekend, but we have other things to talk about. Here we go…
JOEY SAVATGY’S ABSENCE
On Thursday Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Joey Savatgy stated that he would sit out the weekend to await the birth of his daughter with his wife. Although there was some criticism from online posters, the team supported the family-first decision and didn’t hold it against the rider. Savatgy should be back for the Ironman Motocross, his last ride with the team.
KEN ROCZEN’S ILLNESS
Ken Roczen learned the track quickly during Friday’s press riding session and only turned a handful of laps in Saturday’s qualifying, which makes his top time on the stopwatch even more impressive. The warm weather took its toll on the Team Honda HRC rider in the second moto and he slid from second place to seventh place, which put him fourth overall on the day. As soon as the race is over at Ironman, Roczen’s focus will be on rest and recovery, which means he will take an extended break from riding.
BLAKE BAGGETT’S ABSENCE
On Friday night Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/WPS/KTM stated that Blake Baggett will miss the last two rounds due to a Staph infection in his sinuses that had spread around his eye, which would be a big reason for his lack of stamina this summer.
