2019 East Rutherford Supercross | Craig & Brayton Return

Share

Good news for the Red Riders: Justin Brayton and Christian Craig are both slated to return to action at the 2019 East Rutherford Supercross next weekend. Both riders have missed recent rounds of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series due to injury, Craig with ligament damage to his thumb from a preseason crash that never properly healed and Brayton with a tear in the MCL and damage to the ACL in his knee, but both have recovered and are eager to line up before the close of the season.

Brayton’s crash at the 2019 Seattle Supercross was one of the more wild get-offs of recent years and we were surprised he wasn’t hurt worse. When we talked with the SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts/Honda rider at the Nashville round two weeks after the incident, he told us that he had considered lining up to the race but then realized it was too soon. Instead, Brayton has focused on his rehabilitation and yesterday told the team that he’s comfortable enough on the bike to close out the Supercross season. After Las Vegas, Brayton will fly to Hawaii and compete at the recently formed Hawaiian Supercross in Honolulu, then take the summer off thanks to SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts/Honda’s status as a Supercross-only effort.

Craig, meanwhile, has been on the sidelines much longer due to complications with his thumb injury that first occurred before Christmas, did not heal correctly from the first surgery, dislocated again at the 2019 Minneapolis Supercross, and inflicted even more damage. A second procedure was necessary, but the GEICO Honda rider has been back on the bike for just about a month now and felt he needed to get a few gate drops under his belt before the start of the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Craig will run the full summer in the 250 class with GEICO Honda.
