2019 MONSTER ENERGY CUP | COMPLETE COVERAGE
Cooper Webb has confirmed he will not race the 2019 Monster Energy Cup, a decision that comes after his return from a leg injury and a short period of testing with Red Bull KTM in California. As mentioned in last week’s provisional entry list post and yesterday in the Kickstart podcast, Webb stated he was uncertain if he would line up for the offseason event after time spent off of the bike; on Tuesday he announced that he will not be a part of the field. With this, Red Bull KTM will have no factory rider at the race (Marvin Musquin is still on the mend from a knee injury and is yet to resume a full riding program).
Webb joins Zach Osborne, Jason Anderson, and Ken Roczen on the sidelines for the race. All four have opted out after a long season of racing and the upcoming preseason prep.
In the Kickstart podcast, Webb made it very clear that his full focus this offseason is on getting ready for the long defense of his 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series championship. “Winning a championship is a huge accomplishment, but it’s one of those things that if you win you have to do the necessary steps. There is pressure, there are media obligations, and expectations. But that is in my opinion why you do it. For that pressure and that hype of, ‘Can he do it again?'” shared Webb in our twenty-minute interview. He will spend the next few months working out in Aldon Baker’s boot camp, with much of the activity set to start in November, and does not plan to line up at any offseason event between now and Anaheim One in January.
