2020 ANAHEIM TWO SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE
That’s a wrap on timed qualifying here at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Riders spent the first part of the day figuring out the all-new course constructed by the Dirt Wurx crew for the 2020 Anaheim Two Supercross, but the results are very similar to what we saw during the first round of the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Series here two weeks ago. Adam Cianciarulo and Dylan Ferrandis had the fastest lap times of their classes, with Ferrandis holding the top spot in the 250 class all the way through the afternoon.
A quick note about the track. The diamond-shaped stadium floor has been filled with very long lanes connected by hairpin or square-angle turns, which has produced lap times in the 52-second and up range. There’s more than one way to get around the course, though, and that was made clear by the different lines used in the 250 and 450 classes. Riders on the 250 Class bikes strung together certain rhythm sections and used the outside lines in corners to maintain momentum, while the 450 Class hucked bigger combinations and hammered the inside line in the flatter turns. But it didn’t matter to the stopwatch, because the pace between the two different divisions is similar.
250 CLASS QUALIFYING REPORT
As we said above, Ferrandis was the fastest of his group for the third week in a row. That’s an accomplishment, but it’s even more impressive when you realize that the Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider has held the top spot in all six timed qualifying sessions run this year. With a 52.801-second lap time, Ferrandis was the only 250 class rider under the 53-second mark.
St. Louis Supercross Main Event winner Austin Forkner was second on the board, thanks to a 53.053-second lap time that the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider posted in the final session.
Jett Lawrence is figuring this Supercross thing out. The GEICO Honda rookie was in the mix through the final practice session of the day, a sign of his quick learning curve, and ended the day third overall with a 53.251-second lap.
450 CLASS QUALIFYING REPORT
Adam Cianciarulo again had the best lap of the 450 class, as the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider clicked off a 51.865-second time late in the final session. Cianciarulo and his teammate Eli Tomac were the only riders of either class to put in a lap under the 52-second mark, as Tomac’s 51.934 time put him second on the day.
Ken Roczen was third on the day, thanks to a 52.217 time by the Team Honda HRC rider, and was a fraction of a second faster than Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Dean Wilson (Dean did a 52.295 lap in the last practice).
Cianciarulo was the fastest overall rider of the day, true, but his streak top times in every practice was snapped in the first session by Martin Davalos. The Team Tedder/Monster Energy/KTM rider was quick through the day and ended the afternoon ninth overall.
