2020 LORETTA LYNN’S MOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE
Race day. After months of delays and tremendous effort, the first round of the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is now underway. Like everything else this year, there have been major changes made to get the series going, including a move to Tennessee and Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. This is the first time that the property has hosted Pro Motocross, and after a last-minute change, it will now serve as the host venue for the first two rounds of the tour.
Heavy rains on Friday turned the dark black dirt into slop and track crews worked to push the muck to the side for Timed Qualifying. Alas, there were still plenty of soft spots during the morning sessions and the track became rutted, slick, and technical.
2020 LORETTA LYNN’S ONE MOTOCROSS | 250 CLASS QUALIFYING REPORT
This is the first time to The Ranch for Dylan Ferrandis, but it didn’t take long for the Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider to figure out how to get way around the place. A 2:00.222 in the second session was Ferrandis’ fastest lap, and he was the only rider in the 250 Class to nearly break the two-minute mark.
Jeremy Martin hasn’t raced a round of Pro Motocross since June of 2018. Now healed up from the serious back injury and up to speed on his GEICO Honda, Martin was second-quickest in the group with a 2:03.847.
Surprisingly, Justin Cooper’s fastest lap of the morning came during the very wet and muddy first session. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider posted a 2:04.135 and was third overall in the class.
Jett Lawrence has raced The Ranch last year in the Pro Sport classes at the amateur national and maybe that experience helped the GEICO Honda rider. Lawrence put down a 2:04.180 time and was fourth-fastest.
Alex Martin’s pace in Timed Qualifying was impressive and a 2:04.244 time put the JGRMX/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing rider in the top-five.
There are a handful of riders making their pro debuts today. Carson Mumford was seventh overall (2:04.735), Dilan Schwartz was ninth overall (2:05.384), Stilez Robertson was 12th overall (2:06.878), Mason Gonzales was 17th overall (2:07.798), Hardy Munoz was 20th overall (2:09.138), and Josh Varize was 28th overall (2:11.107).
2020 LORETTA LYNN’S ONE MOTOCROSS | 450 CLASS QUALIFYING REPORT
Fastest qualifier in his 450 Class debut. Chase Sexton’s mid-year move to Team Honda HRC and the premier division has been talked about for months and with a 1:58.840 in the second session, Sexton proved that he’s worthy of the attention.
Cooper Webb is one of the contenders for this year’s championship and the Red Bull KTM rider showed he aims to be at the front of the field during the first laps of practice. A 1:59.683 lap in the second session put Webb second overall.
Zach Osborne is another rider that many considered to be a challenger for the top spot in the 450 Class. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider was third fastest in the morning sessions, thanks to 1:59.708.
Another rookie made his way near the top of timesheet in the morning practice, as Adam Cianciarulo rode his Monster Energy Kawasaki to a 1:59.899 time and was scored fourth overall. This is Cianciarulo’s first race since a back injury in Salt Lake City during the Supercross season.
Justin Barcia has told us that he’s happy with the current setup of his Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing bike and it showed on the stopwatch. A 2:00.208 time meant that Barcia was fifth-fastest.
This is Marvin Musquin’s first race since the 2019 Ironman Motocross after back-to-back knee injuries sidelined him through Supercross. The Red Bull KTM rider is apparently comfortable and up to pace, as a 2:00.295 put him sixth overall.
Where was defending champion Eli Tomac? The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider was seventh overall in the 450 Class after a 2:01.104.
