250 MOTO ONE
And the first race of the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series was off, and Justin Cooper was off to the early lead following his holeshot with teammates Dylan Ferrandis and Shane McElrath just behind. As the Star Yamaha teammates swapped line sup front, RJ Hampshire and Jeremy Martin battled for fourth place, but not for long as Rj made the pass and then got around Cooper for third place. Back up front, both Ferrandis and McElrath made the pass on their teammate Justin Cooper. As Ferrandis leads the racers into lap three, rookie Carson Mumford entered sixth place while fellow GEICO Honda racer Hunter Lawrence was left stranded on the track with a mechanical. Alex Martin began making moves on his JGR Suzuki as he passed Mumford and entered sixth place. Meanwhile, brother Jeremy Martin continued to work on Justin Cooper and challenge for fourth place. Alex Martin then made a mistake and fell back to tenth place, just as his brother finally made the pass for fourth. GEICO Honda’s Jett Lawrence latched onto teammate Mumford, and as the two battled for sixth, Mitchell Harrison reeled in the pair. Back up front, RJ Hampshire was on the gas as he made the pass on McElrath for second place. Just as Jett Lawrence caught Mumford, he made a mistake and dropped a few positions back. Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis continued to check off laps upfront and build on his lead, as Jeremy Martin passed into third place. Meanwhile, Justin Cooper’s day was not going as planned as he now sat in fourteenth place after leading early on. Mitchell Harrison made a slight mistake and allowed Alex Martin to make the pass on him for sixth place. While Jett Lawrence caught back up to the front runners after a mistake earlier in the race. A-Mart then passed Mumford for fifth place and continued to charge. RJ Hampshire then dropped from second place to fourth place, just as Harrison passed into fifth place. Carson Mumford seemed to struggle later-on as he continued to drop. Alex Martin made a late moto charge at Harrison for a top-5 finish but Harrison was able to hold off the Suzuki for the time being. However, just a lap later Harrison made a slight mistake while trying to hold Martin off and stalled the bike, allowing Martin by and unfortunately a majority of the field as he could not get the bike to start. Back up front, RJ Hampshire got back around McElrath and secured third place. After a dominant first moto, Dylan Ferrandis took the first win of the 2020 season!
250 MOTO TWO
And 250 Moto two was off, as Shane McElrath was off to the early lead with Justin Cooper and RJ Hampshire alongside. RJ immediately began challenging Shane for the lead but McElrath responded and kept a few bike lengths between the two. Justin Cooper ramped it back up and closed in on Hampshire in second place, just as Dylan Ferrandis moved into the picture as he entered the fourth place position. Ferrandis carried momentum around the outside and made the pass on Alex Martin, and then immediately began working on his teammate in third. It took a few laps, but Ferrandis eventually got around Cooper and set his sights on Hampshire in second place. Just as Ferrandis reeled him in, Hampshire pulled the trigger and passed McElrath for the lead. After a few attempts, Ferrandis used another outside line to pass McElrath for second place. Meanwhile, the Martin brothers began challenging Cooper for fourth place. Cooper made a slight mistake trying to hold Alex Martin off, and ultimately handed Alex the position. Brother Jeremy Martin had to wait a few more corners but ended up passing Cooper as well. Moments later, Cameron McAdoo also made the pass on Cooper. Back up front, Dylan Ferrandis was able to make the pass for the lead on Hampshire and began clicking off laps. The time came for the Martin brothers to duel it out, though it seemed that Jeremy just cruised by brother Alex and into fourth place. Jeremy didn’t stop there, as he caught and then passed Shane McElrath for third place a few laps later. With less than five minutes left on the clock, Alex Martin went down but was able to remount quickly. However, this allowed McAdoo to close in and challenge for the position. Alex Martin managed to lay down some solid laps following his mistake and hold on to the position. As the checkered flag flew, Dylan Ferrandis snagged the moto two win and the overall after another flawless moto.
450 MOTO ONE
The gates were down and the JGR Suzuki teammates of Joey Savatgy and Freddie Noren were off to the early lead after great starts. Jason Anderson quickly challenged the two and passed into the lead. Savatgy then passed his teammate for second place, as Cooper Webb and Max Anstie closed in on the leaders. Webb wasted no time and passed Freddie, then Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton came out of nowhere and passed a whole group of riders around the outside. Sexton entered third place, just as Cooper Webb entered second place. Meanwhile, Jason Anderson completely checked out as he had a six-second lead on second place after just a few laps. Eli Tomac and Adam Cianciarulo continued to make passes inside the top-10, as Tomac entered fourth place and Adam entered sixth. Zach Osborne and Eli Tomac began swapping lines and battling for fourth place. The pair exchanged positions countless times in just a lap, all while reeling in Chase Sexton. Osborne then seemed to secure the position over Tomac and put his focus on Sexton. Meanwhile, Jason Anderson remained upfront with an eight-second lead on Webb in second place. However, a few laps later, Eli Tomac re-joined the battle as he showed some wheels to Osborne, just before Sexton went down while trying to hold off Osborne and gave up the position. While Anderson continued to build on his lead, Cianciarulo and Justin Barcia passed into fifth and sixth place. Back up front, Osborne began challenging Cooper Webb for second place, as Tomac lurked behind the pair. After many laps full of attempts, Osborne was finally able to make the pass on Webb and secure second place, however, the pair both managed to pull away from Tomac while battling. Justin Barcia then made the pass on CIanciaarulo and began challenging Eli Tomac for fourth after a blistering fast lap late in the race. After a few laps of lurking, Justin Barcia launched by Tomac and made the pass for fourth. Justin then began working on Webb for third place. Just a few laps later, RedBull KTM’s Marvin Musquin also put in a late-race charge and made the pass on Tomac for fifth place. Just ahead, Justin Barcia was able to make the pass on Cooper Webb with just seconds left on the clock. However, Eli Tomac wasn’t in the clear yet, as teammate Adam Cianciarulo also got around him. Marvin Musquin then caught and challenged teammate Webb for fourth place and managed to make the pass on the final lap. Throughout all the excitement, Jason Anderson put together a seemingly perfect race and took the first moto win at Loretta’s.
450 MOTO TWO
As the 450 racers left the gates for the final race of the day, Zach Osborne was off to the early lead, with Adam Cianciarulo alongside. Adam Cianciarulo made an early pass on Osborne and entered the lead, as Sexton and Anderson immediately began challenging Osborne. Meanwhile, Justin Barcia was forced to come through the pack again after a tip-over in the third corner. Marvin Musquin began challenging Anderson for fourth place, all while the pair reeled in Sexton. While leading, Adam Cianciarulo went down hard, forcing him to go into the mechanic area. This handed Zach Osborne the lead, just before Anderson was able to make the pass on Sexton for second place. Further back in the field, Eli Tomac made the pass on Musquin for fourth place. Meanwhile, Justin Barcia had already climbed up to eighth place after his early crash. Back up front, Osborne continued to lead as Tomac passed Sexton and entered third place. Laps later, Chase Sexton fired back at Tomac and challenged to take back over third place. However, Eli opened his lead back up and then made an outside pass on Anderson. Marvin Musquin put together another late moto charge and made the pass on Sexton for fourth place. However, Sexton once again did not want to settle, as he fired back and re-took the position from Musquin. Jason Anderson nearly went down, saved it, but then lost the position to Sexton. Blake Baggett also capitalized on Anderson’s mistake and passed him for fourth. Eli Tomac attempted to make a late-race charge at Osborne and the lead, but made a mistake on the final lap and fell short. And as the checkered flag waved, Zach Osborne took the moto two win and the overall at round one.
