And that’s a wrap. Our time in Georgia for the 2020 Mini Major East was incredible, thanks to the Southern hospitality and excellent racing we were treated to over three days. We can’t lie, there were some slight worries about our first-ever race on the other side of the country and the plan came together quickly and offered little leeway for mistakes or miscues. Adding another event to the busy race calendar was one thing all involved were mindful of, but with record turnouts at tracks around the country this year, we all agreed it was the perfect time to take the show on the road and to Silver Dollar Motorsports Park. Was it worthwhile? For a first-year event limited to just mini bikes, we’d say that having just under 500 race entries is very good.
Managed by former pro racer Matt Walker, the piece of property is praised for having a fun layout that riders of all skill levels enjoy and tacky clay-sand dirt that offers incredible traction. Walker and his Moto X Compound staff worked throughout the weekend to make sure everything was prepped to perfection, even after a mid-morning rainstorm on Saturday that caused a brief delay, and their efforts were much appreciated by everyone. Thanks again for the hard work, everyone
Sunday served as the final day of racing and the 15-minute motos flew by! The 26 race schedule was over before we knew it and after the trophies were awarded and the post-race podium interviews wrapped up, we loaded up the rigs and were ready to hit the road. Talks of returning to Silver Dollar in 2021 started on Friday morning and when it was time to leave on Sunday, everyone agreed that the Mini Major will be back and even bigger next year.
The best part of the weekend might have been the fact that there were little to no serious injuries. The occasional broken bone or road rash scrape is part of being a motocross rider, and we know a few racers were tended to by the on-site medics, but fortunately, there was nothing too major at the Mini Major. And that’s a big, big win.
Thank you to everyone that helped make the 2020 Mini Major East a massive success. It was great to chat with the families and riders we got to know over the weekend and we hope that this event lived up to your expectations. The track crew’s efforts cannot be overstated enough and our race series team did an excellent job making sure every detail was sorted out before the gate every dropped. Again, we at Swapmoto Live and the Swapmoto Race Series appreciate the support and we can’t wait to come back for another race in the future!
We’ll have the full race results and complete galleries up in the next few days. For now, check out images from day three and the race broadcast below…
