2020 TAMPA SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE
We shared an update on Blake Baggett yesterday and started to think, “What about the other guys?” So we hit Jared Lesher’s Instagram page and noticed that he had posted an update after the hard slam in the 450 Heat Race and absence from the starting line for the LCQ, while Josh Cartwright posted a replay of his part of the run-in.
Lesher said that the crash happened because he got wheelspin while going up the face of the jump when he doubled into the endzone rhythm section, a different line to what Baggett and others were doing by rolling the first jump and doubling the next two. The opposite rhythm resulted in the two coming together and then hitting the ground. Cartwright was left with nowhere to go and he ran into Baggett’s legs with his front wheel and then lost control up the face of the next jump. The Alpinestars Mobile Medical team tended to both riders as they collected themselves after the crash and both were able to walk away on their own. Lesher sat out the LCQ while Cartwright battled to a 14th place finish.
Both riders said that they were okay in their social media posts, with Cartwright saying that he will be good to go for this weekend’s race in Arlington.
Props to Lesher for explaining what caused the crash and defending Baggett to critics in the comment section of his post. Things like that happen on the opening lap, all part of racing, and we’re glad all three guys will line up again for another moto this coming weekend in Arlington.
Thanks for thinking about the other guys.
