2021 ARLINGTON TWO SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

At the track on a Tuesday. After a few days to regroup, we’re back at AT&T Stadium for the 2021 Arlington Two Supercross, the second of three races that’ll run at the Texas venue. Like we said in Monday Kickstart, this might end up being the most important week of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross Series. Here’s what we’re thinking going into round eleven.

THE COMPETITION

Apologies for being dramatic, but a good result at Arlington Two is a must for a few riders. Saturday night might have taken some momentum from Ken Roczen and Justin Cooper, as the early championship leaders are now down a handful of points to Cooper Webb and Cameron McAdoo in the respective standings. Roczen seemed a little off all day, evident in his Heat Race crash and delayed progress in the Main event, while Webb put in a solid moto on his way to the Main Event win in the 450 Class. Cooper had the speed to run at the front in the 250 Class, but he spent a lot of time overcoming rough early laps in the Main Event, had limited opportunities in the closing laps to make a move on McAdoo, and went down trying a block pass. A heads-up battle between these rivals would be ideal, but that might be asking a lot, especially when there other riders are vying for podium positions (Tomac-Barcia-Anderson-Plessinger-Stewart-Sexton-Hammaker-Marchbanks-Lawrence).

The Dirt Wurx crew has reconfigured a good amount of the course for Arlington Two, an effort that they started on the moment the bikes were off the track Saturday night. As you can see, the start for tonight’s track has been moved to the middle of the floor and riders will blast down the long start straight and into a flat left sweeper after the gate drops. Certain things have stayed the same, including the length of the first two sections and the placement of the finish line, but new elements short straightaways and punchy turns should keep the pack closer together and extend the lap times by at least a few seconds.

The dirt will again be a factor. Riders told us that it was different from one part of the track to the next, something we could see in the shiny slick spots and the rutted soft turns. The clay-sand mix has been watered in the days between races and was overturned by the tractors in the rebuild, but the flow of this track could make it shape up in a much different manner.

MISSING FROM THE LIST

6. Jeremy Martin | The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider is absent from the lineup after dislocating his shoulder at the opening round. It’s unclear how long Martin will be sidelined.

33. Derek Drake | The BARX/Chaparral/ECSTAR/Suzuki rider had a compound fracture of his femur in December, but is already back on the bike. He will sit out the Orlando race, but will join the field later in the season.

45. Pierce Brown | The Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing rider will miss the rest of the Arlington races due to a broken thumb.  

61. Joey Crown | The CLUBMX rider will miss an undetermined amount of time due to a concussion he suffered at Daytona.

63. Martin Castelo | The JMC Motorsports Husqvarna rider is dealing with an ongoing issue in his hand (fractured bone, ligament damage) that will require surgery. After a crash at Daytona, Castelo has decided to sit out Arlington.

65. Carson Brown | The JMC Motorsports Husqvarna rider will miss upcoming rounds of the Supercross series due to a dislocated elbow at the opening round. Brown intends to return for the final portion of the West Coast region.

90. Dilan Schwartz | The BARX/Chaparral/ECSTAR/Suzuki rider will sit out Arlington after crash at Daytona left him beaten up. He will return at a later date.

137. Sean Cantrell | The BARX Motorsports/Chaparral/ECSTAR/Suzuki rider broke his collarbone at the opening round and had it plated in order to return to action as soon as possible.

142. Dakota Alix | The PRMX Racing rider will miss an undetermined amount of races due to a recent back injury.

182. Izaih Clark | The TiLube Honda rider had a hard crash in Timed Qualifying at Arlington One and will be absent from Arlington Two.

483. Bryton Carroll | The Northeast racer will broke his sternum, ribs, and foot in a crash at the Daytona Supercross. He will miss an undetermined amount of time.

711. Tristan Lane | The Florida privateer suffered an AC joint separation and concussion at the opening round, injuries that will sideline him for an undetermined amount of time.

837. Bryson Gardner | The Team BWR rider will miss an uncertain number of races due to compression fractures of his L2 vertebra and a fracture of the pelvis.

12. Shane McElrath | The SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts/Honda rider is dealing with pain in his back, something similar to the issues he faced in 2019. He will sit out Arlington.

16. Zach Osborne | The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider has a bulging disc in his lower back and will miss Arlington.

25. Marvin Musquin | As expected, a hard crash at Arlington One will keep the Red Bull KTM rider out for Arlington Two. It’s uncertain when he will return to action.

57. Justin Rodbell | The SGB Racing/Babbitts Online/Kawasaki rider will an undetermined amount of time due to a knee injury.

76. Grant Harlan | The TiLube Honda rider suffered a small brain bleed, broken elbow, and broken wrist in a crash at Daytona. He has been released from the hospital and will miss an undetermined amount of time.

99. Hunter Sayles | The Illinois privateer tore his ACL and partial tore his LCL when he cased a jump at Arlington One. He will undergo surgery and sit out the rest of the season. 

722. Adam Enticknap | The Twisted Tea/HEP Motorsports/Suzuki rider will miss Daytona due to a broken collarbone. He will return later in the season.

805. Carlen Gardner | The Team BWR rider suffered an arm injury in the LCQ at Arlington One and will sit out Arlington Two. 

824. Carter Stephenson | The privateer will miss the rest of the season due to a broken wrist, fractured sternum, and two broken ribs.

952. Ludovic Macler | The French rider has finished his time limited time racing in the US with Team PRMX.

974. Brian Marty | The privateer suffered a separated AC joint, broken elbow, and broken rib in a practice crash and will undergo surgery to correct the damage. He hopes to be back later in the season.

981. Austin Politelli | The HRT-backed privateer has been dealing with lingering symptoms from a concussion and another hard crash at Daytona has put him on the sidelines for Arlington.
