The sixth round of the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship is officially underway, as riders spent Saturday morning logging laps during qualifying at the 2023 Southwick Motocross. For the most part, the deep and technical course helped produce incredibly close lap times in both classes. Just fractions of a second split the front-runners in the 250MX and 450MX Class on the qualifying sheets, which ratcheted up the anticipation for today’s racing even more. Here’s a look at the fastest lap times and results…
Jimmy Decotis,’The Ripper,’ decided to make a brief return to racing for the 2023 Southwick Motocross. The local talent made his presence known after logging the fastest lap time in the 250MX class in the first group-B timed qualifying session. Jimmy’s 2:06.592 was just a few tenths faster than the next best time, but ultimately held its position up top.
Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Justin Cooper was next on the time sheets after logging a 2:06.810 in the first session of timed qualifying.
After last week’s brutal crash following the start, it was good to see Hunter Lawrence back on track and feeling the flow. The Team Honda HRC rider logged the third best lap time in the first session of practice, a 2:08.267.
Once again, Jett Lawrence topped the charts with a blistering fast lap time in the first session of 450MX timed qualifying. Jett’s 2:05.422 was nearly 2-seconds faster than the next best lap time.
Team Honda HRC teammate Chase Sexton was just behind on the time sheets, as he laid down a 2:07.630 in the opening session of riding.
Dylan Ferrandis seems to be building each week, as this is the most comfortable we have seen him in qualifying in 2023. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider logged the third best lap time, a 2:08.371.
