2024 Monster Energy Supercross Championship | Track Maps

Share

Extensive details, including track layouts, race formats, support classes, and start times, have been announced for the 2024 Monster Energy Supercross Championship. The tour will hit sixteen cities in thirteen states over nineteen weeks for a venue-to-venue total of 18,185 miles, starting with the Anaheim One Supercross in January and ending at the Salt Lake City Supercross in May.

What can we expect?

There are eight rounds for the 250 West Coast Region, seven for the 250 East Coast Region, and two Showdowns (Nashville and Salt Lake City).

Of the sixteen venues, two are baseball diamonds, thirteen are football-soccer rectangles, and one is a speedway.

Anaheim Two, Indianapolis, and St. Louis will feature the Triple Crown format.

The two weekends off are February 17 and April 6.

Elite amateur competitors will be showcased through the Supercross Futures program at four events (Anaheim Two, Daytona, St. Louis, Foxborough). These races will be considered Premier Qualifying rounds, and the top five finishers will advance to the Supercross Futures AMA National Championship finale in Salt Lake City.

Fan Fest will open the pit area to the public at every round but Detroit (compact streets and cold weather). The paddock will be located indoors at San Francisco, Birmingham, Seattle, and St. Louis.

As part of an effort to grow audiences watching on NBC, Feld Entertainment has adjusted the timetable for the 2024 season so that the Heat Races and Main Events always occur during the primetime television viewing hours for fans in the Eastern/Central time zones, regardless of where the race is happening. All seventeen rounds will be shown live on Peacock. Races will also be broadcast through a selection of NBC’s traditional outlets, including USA and NBC’s national television channel. International options will include partner networks worldwide and a series-hosted SuperMotocross Video Pass.

2024 Anaheim One Supercross | Round One | January 6
Angel Stadium of Anaheim – California

250 West Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 10:00 AM PT
Opening Ceremonies | 4:30 PM PT
Race Start | 5:00 PM PT

What’s there to say about Anaheim One that hasn’t been said before? We’ll save the exciting text for the week-of post and instead talk about California’s weather the first weekend of January and how it will impact the track. If it’s cold and rainy, the dark dirt will be soft and spongy, especially down the first baseline, and the tricky ruts will develop in the transitions. If it’s warm and dry, the track’s base will get a few days to bake in the sun after being dumped, shaped, and packed by heavy equipment.

A mellow layout at the opening round is usually used to ease everyone into the season, but the 2024 track has a lot going on, starting with an arcing right-hand first turn and a series of abrupt jumps, flats, and berms, a sand pit, the only dragon back of the year, finish line double to spec triple, a field-length rhythm lane, and back-to-back whoops.

All of the West Coast rounds are impacted by the earlier start time, and opening ceremonies will be in the late afternoon.

2024 San Francisco Supercross | Round Two | January 13
Oracle Park – California

250 West Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 10:30 AM PT
Opening Ceremonies | 5:00 PM PT
Race Start | 5:30 PM PT

After ten years in Oakland, it’s back to the other side of the bridge for a popular return to San Francisco. Being in the middle of Mission Bay brings new challenges; the corner near Oracle Park is an active construction site for high-rise buildings, and the paddock and FanFest will take over the surrounding streets and a nearby pier.

A big concern leading into this race will be the weather, as winter days by the bay can be cold, overcast, and wet. Monster Jam will happen at Oracle Park the week before Supercross, meaning the gray-brown soil will be in place and ready when Dirt Wurx shows up.

The start runs across the outfield, hooks a left turn, and then into a rhythm section toward home plate. A slight kink breaks up and extends the baseline jump lane, and it’s followed by a small double and big triple, long whoops, and a flat sweeper into a sand pit. How long until someone boosts the possible quad placed in the middle of the track?

2024 San Diego Supercross | Round Three | January 20
Snapdragon Stadium – California

250 West Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 10:30 AM PT
Opening Ceremonies | 5:00 PM PT
Race Start | 5:30 PM PT

SnapDragon Stadium is the new home for Supercross in San Diego. Located in Mission Valley, just a few hundred yards from where the cavernous Jack Murphy Stadium once was, the venue checks all the boxes: brand-new and amenity-packed, open space for pits and parking, and plenty of dirt from the ongoing developments nearby to build a track with.

The overall design and use of space is interesting. The start runs diagonally across the floor, and the first turn is a very tight right. The perimeter is two long rhythms, then a spec triple followed by a big double. There are three fast passes over the flat start lane and a few well-placed jumps to slow down the pace.

2024 Anaheim Two Supercross | Round Four | January 27
Angel Stadium of Anaheim – California

250 West Region & 450 SX
Triple Crown Format – Timed Qualifying, LCQs, Three Motos
Supercross Futures & KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 10:30 AM PT
Opening Ceremonies | 5:00 PM PT
Race Start | 5:30 PM PT

Back to Orange County. The excitement and expectations are always different at A2, with a switch to the Triple Crown race format, an upcoming break for the 250 West Coast Region, the addition of the Supercross Futures amateurs, and the “last California round” making it an important weekend. Like we mentioned in the intro, Angel Stadium and Oracle Park are the only baseball diamond configurations on the calendar, and after this, it’s twelve rectangle-shaped football fields broken up by the oddly shaped speedway.

The track is much different than A1, too. The starting gate has been moved from center to left field, and the first turn is a flat, rounded left-hander. The over-under bridge makes its first of appearances in 2024, and it’s placed between an on-off tabletop and some rough moguls. Crooked rhythm sections seem to be a trend, and a ten-jump lane goes along the tall wall in the right field. Everyone from the Futures teens to the 450 Class veterans will be challenged by the two sets of whoops, but they’ll get a chance to catch their breath before the rhythm goes down the third baseline.

One last thing to note is how much the dirt changes from round one to round four after weeks of exposure to the weather, getting churned over for alternating Supercross races and Monster Jam shows, and being packed in by all the trucks and tractors.

2024 Detroit Supercross | Round Five | February 3
Ford Field – Michigan

250 East Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
KTM JR SX

Stadium Entry | 8:00 AM ET
Opening Ceremonies | 2:30 PM ET
Race Start | 3:00 PM ET

Detroit will be a big weekend for the series and its relationship with NBC. Airing a whole race on the traditional channel is an opportunity Feld Entertainment felt they couldn’t pass up, but the offered Saturday time slot would have been difficult to manage if it happened in Glendale (the drive from California would have been quick, but a Friday practice would have been necessary, and Saturday’s gate drops would have been in the morning and midday, which would hamper ticket sales). All the issues made a 2276-mile haul from Angel Stadium to Ford Field for an afternoon program more reasonable. Round five will be the first appearance for the 250 East Coast Region.

The start and left-handed first turn take up a big part of the stadium floor, which means short lap times, but six lanes packed with obstacles and connected by big bowl turns or a sand section will keep things exciting. Will riders be able to maintain momentum through back-to-back rhythms and over the whoops, or will the crumbly dirt break down and turn into a rutted, technical challenge?

2024 Glendale Supercross | Round Six | February 10
State Farm Stadium – Arizona

250 West Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 11:30 AM MT
Opening Ceremonies | 6:00 PM MT
Race Start | 6:30 PM MT

Glendale is back to its usual early date in the calendar again after preparation for last year’s Super Bowl blocked out the venue’s availability. The 250 West Coast Region will complete its first leg in Arizona, and there’s a five-week break until the next event, Seattle, in late March. Round six will follow the standard Heat Race-LCQ-Main Event format.

The track will be different than past designs at State Farm Stadium. The start is very short compared to the fourth gear runs usually used here, and the “Red Zone” area will be bowl turns connecting four long, kinked lanes. The middle of the floor will be two whoop sets separated by sand, bowl turns, and a flat sweeper, while the other red zone will be a no-bailout double, a pair of hairpin turns, and six assorted jumps. Arizona’s desert dirt is always a factor, as ruts and bumps that develop when the red adobe is soft and wet become even trickier as it dries out and hardens up.

2024 Arlington Supercross | Round Seven | February 24
AT&T Stadium – Texas

250 East & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 11:00 AM CT
Opening Ceremonies | 5:30 PM CT
Race Start | 6:00 PM CT

After an early week off, the series resumes at round seven in Arlington, the only Texas stop in 2024. Since this is only the second race for the 250 East Coast Region, it will follow the usual Heat Race-LCQ-Main Event format. AT&T Stadium is a staple for the series, as the DFW region is massive and easy to reach for many in neighboring states, and the billion-dollar building remains a tourist destination.

The design is like Detroit in the way the start and lanes fill out the floor, though a narrower chute allows a simple loop to be added to the far end, which will tack on a few seconds to the lap time. On-screen, everything looks simple, but three rhythms, one whoop pad, a spec triple, and the red dirt’s ability to be soft loam in one spot and hard slick in another will be big challenges in real life.

2024 Daytona Supercross | Round Eight | March 2
Daytona International Speedway – Florida

250 East Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
Supercross Futures

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 12:00 PM ET
Opening Ceremonies | 6:30 PM ET
Race Start | 7:00 PM ET

The design for Daytona, the only speedway on the schedule, reflects the decades of history within the high banks. The facility gave creative director Ricky Carmichael full control of the tri-oval, and the GOAT has decided to reverse the direction of the track and leave more of the grass exposed so that more lines will develop naturally. Staples like switchback sections, long rhythm lanes, dark black dirt, white beach sand, and Bike Week fans close to the action all remain.

2024 Birmingham Supercross | March 9
Protective Stadium – Alabama

250 East Region & 450 Class
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 11:00 AM CT
Opening Ceremonies | 5:30 PM Ct
Race Start | 6:00 PM CT

Supercross stays in the South for round nine, a first-ever visit to the new Protective Stadium in Alabama. The open-air structure was finished in 2021 with a capacity of 47,000 spectators and is home to the University of Alabama at Birmingham athletics program and Birmingham Legion FC soccer team.

Bypassing Atlanta was a big decision for the series, as it’s a hub for the region and has decades of racing history in different venues. However, the new location is just two hours away via Interstate 20, and the surrounding Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex will bring amenities like indoor pits, parking, hotels, and restaurants.

The track will be built of red clay (Monster Jam footage from the BJCC will give you an idea of what it’ll be like) and will feature two field-length rhythms, three different runs over the start, one set of whoops, and one triple.

2024 Indianapolis Supercross | Round Ten | March 16
Lucas Oil Stadium – Indiana

250 East Region & 450 SX
Triple Crown Format – Timed Qualifying, LCQs, Three Motos
KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 12:00 PM ET
Opening Ceremonies | 6:30 PM ET
Race Start | 7:00 PM ET

Indianapolis getting designated a Triple Crown was a little surprising, since the soil hauled into Lucas Oil Stadium is known for being very, very soft and, as we saw last year, gets rutted and rugged after just a few laps of practice. The Dirt Wurx crew will be busy between practice sessions, LCQs, and the motos, but regularly scheduled breaks in the action should be enough time for them to keep the surface groomed and safe.

Indianapolis and Denver are similar but different. Both starts are in the very middle of the floor, left-hand first turns feed into jumpy first sections, and the perimeter lanes feature many of the same obstacles (triple into corner/end zone rhythm to stadium length rhythm/sand after finish line), but a wall jump into the whoops at Indianapolis replaces the extra two passes over the start that will happen at Denver.

2024 Seattle Supercross | Round Eleven | March 23
Lumen Field – Washington

250 West Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 10:00 AM PT
Opening Ceremonies | 4:30 PM PT
Race Start | 5:00 PM PT

Rounds ten through twelve are always challenging in the championship chase, and this year’s Indianapolis to Seattle to St. Louis route will add cross-country flights, 4298 road miles for the rigs, time zones, weather changes, differences in dirt, a possibility of illness, injury or general fatigue, and other elements to the situation.

Late March seems a little early for the Seattle stop, but the last few races at the open-air Lumen Field have been around the same time of year, and rain hasn’t been as big of an issue as one would assume. Still, precipitation is always a threat in the PNW, and this looks like an easy-to-build and navigate layout if the grey skies open up. Going back and forth across the start is a noticeable trend in this year’s tracks, with three flat lanes connecting the rhythm/whoop side to the finish line/triple/sand side.

2024 St. Louis Supercross | Round Twelve | March 30
The Dome at America’s Center – Missouri

250 West Region & 450 SX
Triple Crown Format – Timed Qualifying, LCQs, Three Motos
Supercross Futures & KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 11:00 AM CT
Opening Ceremonies | 5:30 PM CT
Race Start | 6:00 PM CT

A return to St. Louis is a bit of a surprise, especially with Indianapolis two weeks before and Nashville three weeks later, but The Dome at the America’s Center makes sense: with no full-time sports team, the stadium and attached convention center are always available, fans from all over the Midwest will make the drive to Missouri, and the soft red-orange clay is widely praised by riders as the best dirt on the circuit. Round eleven will be the third running of the Triple Crown format for the 450 Class and the 250 West Coast Region this year and the third appearance of the Supercross Futures amateurs.

A long start is followed by a rounded left turn and an equally long rhythm section, a lane that will become even bigger when it is part of the entire lap. It seems like Dirt Wurx has tried to limit the use of 90-degree turns in 2024, but the St. Louis layout features four, with two that will send riders over the start lane and into a triple and another pair that’s before and after the endzone whoops. A small hump will be added to the inside line of the sharp turn after the triple, so some riders will take the slower, shorter route while will use the berm to carry speed into the fast, flat lane. This track is heavy on jumps, with a 3-5-3 in front of the spec triple and another big rhythm lane with three or four possible sequences.

2024 Foxborough Supercross | Round Thirteen | April 13
Gillette Stadium – Massachusetts

250 East Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
Supercross Futures

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 12:00 PM ET
Opening Ceremonies | 6:30 PM ET
Race Start | 7:00 PM ET

The IND-SEA-STL haul will be followed by the second weekend off in the schedule, a much-needed break before the final five-race push.

The Northeast rotation of East Rutherford and Foxborough continues at round thirteen with a return to Gillette Stadium. The gray, gravely dirt used for Supercross is much different than the sand 100 miles further west at Southwick, as it’s a soft and loose top layer over the hard and slick base that rewards riders with throttle control.

The start will funnel into a long, gradual left turn and then dump out into the first lane of obstacles. A seven-jump rhythm in the middle of the track will have a few different options, and the 180-turn after it but before the finish line will be prime placing passes during the races. The rest of the track will be technical and intense: tight turn to spec triple, bowl turn to 3-5-3 followed by whoops, another bowl turn, single-table-single, abrupt 84-degree turn, flat run to wall jump, 180-flat turn into another short flat run, bowl turn, sand.

2024 Nashville Supercross | Round Fourteen | April 20
Nissan Stadium – Tennessee

250 East-West Showdown & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 12:00 PM ET
Opening Ceremonies | 6:30 PM ET
Race Start | 7:00 PM ET

The popularity and appeal of Nashville have made it a must-visit for Supercross, and since everyone wants to go to the Tennessee town, this year’s race will include the East-West Showdown. Spring in the South means intense storms and clear skies in just a few minutes, and the open-air design of Nissan Stadium means the hard-packed dirt will be exposed to whatever weather system rolls through.

The hype of the East-West Showdown is evident in the split gate, and riders will come together as they approach the first turn. The overhead shot of the track shows how important gate pick will be, as both sides have clear pros and cons, and a start will be very important with the combined coasts. Getting through the first turn will be the first challenge to the intense opening laps because riders will then navigate a rhythm section, double to spec triple, and sand while jostling for position among the pack.

What will be the preferred rhythm in the building-length lane? We’re sure someone will uncork the triple-triple-triple-double, but a double-on/off-triple-double should be more consistent to do lap after lap.

2024 Philadelphia Supercross | Round Fifteen | April 27
Lincoln Financial Field – Pennsylvania

250 East Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 8:00 AM ET
Opening Ceremonies | 2:30 PM ET
Race Start | 3:00 PM ET

Philadelphia is a new addition to the calendar, and with Pennsylvania’s passion for motocross, plus the combined populations of New York/New Jersey/Delaware, the first visit to Lincoln Financial Field should be a well-attended event. The dirt will be a question mark, but footage from Monster Jam at the venue shows an orange powdery mix that could be loose, slick, and dusty during the afternoon race.

The first turn is a tight left hairpin, and how riders go through the following rhythm at the start will be dictated by whoever gets there first. But anything goes from lap two on, and this could be a decisive section as the race continues. The Linc has a sort of angled design, and it’s most apparent in the longest lane of the track, where two kinks could determine if jumping through is one continuous smooth line or three split motions. The end zone’s spec triple is followed by an interesting section of four straight singles and six smaller rollers around the curve, and then it’s a wide-open run across the flat and over the whoops to the finish line.

2024 Denver Supercross | Round Sixteen | May 4
Empower Field at Mile High – Colorado

250 West Region & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 10:00 AM MT
Opening Ceremonies | 4:30 PM MT
Race Start | 5:00 PM MT

Repeat trips to Colorado for the Denver Supercross and Thunder Valley Motocross have revealed a passionate fan base, especially for ET3. Empower Field at Mile High has been a welcome addition to the calendar, as the building makes the fans sound even louder, and the surrounding parking lots have enough space for everyone to spread out.

The track looks a lot like Indianapolis, right? The layouts are almost identical, with the two added runs over the start, a bowl turn, and the rock-hard mountain dirt being the differences. Going inside or outside in the 90-degree turns before and after the end zone rhythm will determine how riders jump through it: on-off/triple, roll single/table to single/triple, on-off/double/single, single over table/triple/single, or single over table/double/double.

2024 Salt Lake City Supercross | Round Seventeen | May 11
Rice-Eccles Stadium – Utah

250 East-West Showdown & 450 SX
Standard Format – Timed Qualifying, Heat Races, LCQs, Main Events
Supercross Futures & KTM JR SX

Fan Fest & Stadium Entry | 11:00 AM MT
Opening Ceremonies | 5:30 PM MT
Race Start | 6:00 PM MT

Utah’s status as the State of Sport and a series sponsor brings the finale to Salt Lake City. Rice-Eccles Stadium has become an important place for Supercross and, like any open-roofed venue, it has allowed for everything from hot and dry afternoons to cold and muddy evenings.

The sweeping left first turn will let riders set up for the long rhythm, where staying low and putting power to the ground will be one method while going wide and getting big air will be the other. The over-under bridge is back for only the second time this year, but now it’s a tabletop for racers to go over during the moto and a tunnel for riders to go under on their way to the gate. Flat passes over the start are connected by a flat sweeper and a banked 180, and a hard 90-degree left sets riders up for whoops that will be big and solid.
