2024 PARIS SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE
We’re in France for the 2024 Paris Supercross, a crown jewel of the offseason calendar that packs the La Defense Arena for two nights of competition.
This weekend is the fortieth anniversary of the event, and the lineup is stacked with talent, including last year’s winners Jett Lawrence and Jo Shimoda, plus Hunter Lawrence, Cooper Webb, Malcolm Stewart, national stars Tom Vialle and Dylan Ferrandis, and full-time contenders of the French SX Tour.
Six lanes of obstacles have been laid out by the JLFO crew, including a long start that funnels into a lefthand first turn, two field-length rhythm sections, two big jumps, a small sand pit, and a set of perfectly rolled whoops. It’s not the exact size of an American Supercross track, with lap times around 44-47 seconds, but Europe’s largest arena still has enough room to accommodate the entire paddock, too.
We talked with a handful of riders and teams on Friday, and all mentioned the importance of this event in their preparation for next year. For Team Honda HRC, this will be the first time the 2025 CRF platform has been raced in Supercross conditions, including Jo Shimoda’s first race on the new 250. Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha shipped a race-spec YZ450F for Cooper Webb, and it’ll go from here to Australia for the upcoming AUSX Open. Red Bull KTM built Tom Vialle’s bike in their Austrian race shop, then did a few days of testing at the rider’s private practice track in the south of France before coming up.
The format for the weekend is like a Triple Crown, with three races per class and a rider’s combined results determining their overall finish each night. The fan-favorite Super Pole will feature both the SX1 and SX2 classes, but the importance of the single lap dash differs between the two divisions, as the eight SX1 riders will be determined by their timed qualifying rank while the top six riders from SX2 will be picked by their results in Moto One and Two.
