Round two of the 2024 Monster Energy Supercross Championship is officially underway in San Francisco, CA, as this morning’s timed qualifying sessions just wrapped up. Riders took to the muddy course inside of Oracle Park just a few moments ago for their timed-qualifying practices. Just hundredths of a second split the front-runners in both the 250SX West and 450SX classes. The free-practice sessions and ultimately the final timed qualifying sessions were canceled due to the weather conditions, which left riders with just one practice and one opportunity to lay down a fast lap. Here’s a look at the fastest qualifiers and some information on how their qualifying sessions went in San Francisco!
250SX Class
Last weekend’s winner and current 250SX West Championship points leader Rj Hampshire was the rider to beat this morning. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna racer recovered from a crash early in the session and logged a 1:06.054 before the checkered flag flew to claim the fastest qualifier title.
Privateer Max Sanford split the factory boys on the time sheets, as he logged the second best lap time in the first Group B qualifying session. Thanks to a quick deteriorating track, Max’s 1:06.236 was just a few hundredths slower than Rj’s fast lap
After a rough get-off in last weekend’s Main Event, Nate Thrasher was back at the races and looked to be all good. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha racer laid down the third fastest lap time in the 250SX class. The Tennessee kid is certainly one to watch in tonight’s Main Event.
450SX Class
Everyone’s favorite cowboy seemed to be liking the sloppy conditions, as Aaron Plessinger topped the charts in the 450SX class. The RedBull KTM Factory Racing rider laid down a 1:09.128 late in the one and only session of timed qualifying.
RedBull KTM teammate Chase Sexton was next on the time sheets, as the 2023 450SX champion logged a 1:09.337 on his final lap of qualifying to jump into second place.
After an underwhelming performance at the season opener, Hunter Lawrence is already off to a much better start in San Francisco. The Team Honda HRC rider laid down a 1:09.502 on his final lap of qualifying to claim third place over his younger brother.
