2024 Pro Motocross Championship | Southwick | Round Five
Round five of the Pro Motocross Championship kicked off this morning at Southwick, just outside of Hampden County, Massachusetts. Moments ago, Timed Qualifying sessions took place, where riders in both the 250 Class and 450 Class got a half-hour to learn the technical race circuit through two 15-minute sessions.
The Frenchmen Tom Guyon topped the charts in this morning’s timed-qualifying session after logging an unbeatable 2:05.091 in the first session of Group B practice. It’s typical that we see a fast lap from Group B practice in the top step of Southwick timed-qualifying, due to how quickly the track breaks down.
After laying down a 2:05.228 in the first session of Group A qualifying, Haiden Deegan was next on the 250MX leaderboards. The current 250MX Championship points leader and red-plate holder looks to have put in some work in the sand since his last appearance at the Wick.
After a rough three rounds, Joey Savatgy looks to be turning around his season and is back on race-winning pace. The Factory Triumph racer logged a 2:05.753 in the first session of timed-qualifying to secure third place on the leaderboards.
For the first time since late 2022, Chase Sexton topped the charts in timed-qualifying. The RedBull KTM Factory Racing rider logged a 2:04.370 in the first session of practice, which was nearly two tenths fastest than the next best lap time.
Jett Lawrence was the next name on the 450MX qualifying leaderboards, as he laid down the second best lap time in the opening session of timed-qualifying. Jett’s 2:04.507 kept him in second place throughout the remainder of the morning, but the reigning champion did pull off early in the final session of qualifying and head back to the pits.
Justin Cooper rounded out the top-3 in 450MX timed-qualifying. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider laid down a 2:05.228 in the opening session of practice and just edged out Aaron Plessinger on the leaderboards.
