2025 Tampa Supercross | Qualifying Report
The East coast stretch of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross Championship and the 2025 SuperMotocross World Championship is officially underway, as the fifth race day of the season is in progress following this morning’s qualifying sessions. Riders took to the unique course that fills the inside of Raymond James Stadium just a few moments ago for their timed-qualifying practices. Just hundredths of a second split the front-runners in both the 250SX East and 450SX classes. Here’s a look at the fastest qualifiers and some information on how their qualifying sessions went at Tampa!
Max Anstie was off to a great start in his Supercross debut with the Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha team, as he claimed the top step in 250SX Timed-Qualifying with a 54.827. Reigning 250SX West Champion Rj Hampshire was the next name on the qualifying sheets, thanks to a 54.978 lap time that came in the final session of practice. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker rounded out the top-3 in qualifying with a 55.735, though the now Florida local was the fastest rider in the first session of Timed-Qualifying.
Current 450SX Championship points-leader and red plate holder Chase Sexton improved throughout the qualifying sessions to ultimately claim the top step on the lap sheets with a 54.179, which came late in the final session of riding. Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb was next on the leaderboards, thanks to an impressive 54.543 lap time from the final practice. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Malcolm Stewart looked comfortable and confident throughout the morning, which resulted in a 54.751; the third fastest lap time on the time charts.
Dylan Ferrandis will sit out Tampa Supercross following a practice crash earlier in the week that resulted in an injury to his chest/shoulder area. The Phoenix Honda racer attempted to line-up but rode back out of the stadium after a short time on track.
Eli Tomac had an incident in the final session of qualifying where he lost his footing and dabbed his left ankle/leg on a jump at the beginning of a rhythm lane. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha immediately rode off track in visible pain and was then seen being treated to by the medics. There is no official word yet on Eli’s condition.
