2021 ARLINGTON THREE SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE
Our time in Texas is almost over. Riders are ready for the 2021 Arlington Three Supercross, the twelfth round of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross Series, and the third race in seven days at AT&T Stadium. We’ve been at it for a while now and the total number of laps, plus the short turnaround time between races, has taken a toll on riders in the field. Fortunately, this checkered flag will bring a two-week break from the action and give everyone a chance to regroup before the last leg of the series.
THE COMPETITION
Tuesday night’s race was excellent. Sure, you might have thought the freight train at the front of the pack was boring, but in reality, we saw a straight-up battle between the top three racers in the sport at a key time in the championship. Cooper Webb was dominant, as he took the lead in the first turn, never waivered under pressure, and pulled further ahead in the final stages of the long race. The Red Bull KTM rider was rewarded with a few more points than the rest, and he’s now up by a double-digit margin on the competition. Eli Tomac got a much-needed start, sat behind Webb for much of the Main Event, and teed up a charge in the closing laps, only to have a mistake entering the whoops wipe away the progress. The effort reminded everyone that the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider has the speed and the drive to go for the win and how a small error can have a big impact on a rider’s final result. All of that could have changed if Ken Roczen could have cut a tighter line in the first turn; the Team Honda HRC rider came into the corner a little hot and went from a possible holeshot to further back in the field. Roczen quickly made up for this, got into third place, and tailed the Webb and Tomac for the rest of the race.
Can these three find each other again? That sort of scenario is a rarity in Supercross, especially with riders like Anderson-Plessinger-Stewart-Sexton-Ferrandis all showing podium-level pace.
Four winners in four races, plus at least one rough result per rider, have kept the 250 West Coast region point standings very close. Hunter Lawrence has taken over the top spot with 84 points, Cameron McAdoo is second at 83 points, and Justin Cooper is third at 82 points. This sort of incredible and unpredictable racing is what we love about the “development division” and tonight’s race will be important for all three contenders; they’ll know how every position-pass-point will impact their rank going into the two weeks off and the final four rounds of their region.
THE TRACK
We end the time in Texas with another all-new track. Dirt Wurx moved a lot of dirt in the days between races, angled the starting gate a few degrees, and hauled in some sand for a track that’s looks like it will be fast and flowing. Tuesday’s shorter chutes, walls, and elevated turn have been replaced with long rhythms, a standard-issue whoop section, an endzone triple jump, and four mounds of sand-clay that will slow the pack down just before the finish line. The bowl turns should help riders link together sections and go for passes, but the flat corners will be less ideal. Lap times have become a talking point lately, and although we haven’t seen a lap on this track yet, all indications make it look like it’ll be another quick course.

6. Jeremy Martin | The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider is absent from the lineup after dislocating his shoulder at the opening round. It’s unclear how long Martin will be sidelined, but he is already back on the bike.
26. Alex Martin | The Manluk/Rock River Yamaha/Merge Racing rider will miss Arlington Three due to a recent wrist injury; Martin was hopeful to race this weekend and will likely return for the Atlanta events.
33. Derek Drake | The BARX/Chaparral/ECSTAR/Suzuki rider had a compound fracture of his femur in December, but is already back on the bike. He will sit out the Orlando race, but will join the field later in the season.

53. Jake Masterpool | The Supercross rookie will sit out Arlington Three after a number of crashes took a toll on his body.
61. Joey Crown | The CLUBMX rider will miss an undetermined amount of time due to a concussion he suffered at Daytona.
63. Martin Castelo | The JMC Motorsports Husqvarna rider is dealing with an ongoing issue in his hand (fractured bone, ligament damage) that will require surgery. After a crash at Daytona, Castelo has decided to sit out Arlington.
65. Carson Brown | The JMC Motorsports Husqvarna rider will miss upcoming rounds of the Supercross series due to a dislocated elbow at the opening round. Brown intends to return for the final portion of the West Coast region.
66. Jordan Bailey | The Florida racer will be sidelined for an undetermined amount of time due to a crash and shoulder injury at Arlington Two.
90. Dilan Schwartz | The BARX/Chaparral/ECSTAR/Suzuki rider will sit out Arlington after crash at Daytona left him beaten up. He will return at a later date.
137. Sean Cantrell | The BARX Motorsports/Chaparral/ECSTAR/Suzuki rider broke his collarbone at the opening round and had it plated in order to return to action as soon as possible.
