Moto Tips | Beat The Heat At Hot Races

Pack accordingly, with extras of anything from gloves to goggles to helmet liners and underwear. In an ideal situation, you’re able to change into a nice and dry set of whatever you soak the most between motos. If not…
Dry properly. Certain items in your gear bags need to be specially cared for, including the way they’re aired out or stored. A mid-day bake in the sun is okay for a set of gloves, maybe goggles, but a helmet should never be subjected to that UV and temp treatment. Unpack and wash gear as soon as possible.
Cool down. The head, groin, hands, and feet are hotspots when it comes to body temps, so peel off your helmet, boots, gloves, and pants if possible. Stay in the shade between motos, be it from a tree, EZ-Up, or umbrella.
Try a pro trick. Add a maxi pad to the forehead area of the goggles to keep sweat from splashing onto the inner lens. Powder your hands before putting on gloves. Slash holes in a jersey for added ventilation. Channel the sweat off your forehead by applying a piece of plastic to your brow, below the helmet liner and above the goggles.
Hydrate. If it’s a hot race, you should be sweating. If you aren’t, there’s an issue. Always have a bottle of water handy when not on the track, with the occasional twist of fruit or sport drink mixed in for flavor and electrolytes.
