An eventful weekend at Villars Sous Ecot started with the announcement of a revision for the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship: the MXGP of Vietnam, which was to make its debut with a new track at Thanh Hoa in September, has been canceled and replaced by the MXGP of Italy at the famed Maggiora facility. The relocated race will still run on the same date, September 16-17, and remains the penultimate round in the globe-trotting tour.

InFront Moto Racing has done well with its efforts to take motocross to new markets, including a recent expansion into southeast Asia that continues this year with two events in Indonesia, but elements like unproven facilities or local infrastructure lead to changes in the MXGP championship calendar, even during the competition season. This is the fifth update to the 2023 schedule since it was provisionally announced last October, when the original plans called for 20 races and four events.

The series has a weekend off before embarking on a five-round in six-week run through Latvia, Germany, and Indonesia for motos in Kegum, Teutschenthal, Sumbawa, and Lombok.
