2024 LAS VEGAS SUPERMOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE
After a full year of close battles at stadiums and racetracks all around the country, the SuperMotocross World Championship will be decided today.
The four-lane Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been topped with thousands of yards of dirt and sand and finished with a layout that riders say is different than the two prior playoffs. The roughly minute and a half loop features poppy jumps in the rhythm lanes, high-speed doubles in the back section, and mixed terrain like loose topsoil over hardpack, areas of darker dirt, and deep white sand.
We’re in for a warm afternoon, with an expected high of 92 degrees during the Timed Qualifying Sessions, and a temperature drop to 80s when the sun goes down. Keeping the track in check has been an important task for the Dirt Wurx crew this week, especially with the unrelenting desert sun, but they’ve repeated combed and watered the dirt and should have it in racy condition for the title-deciding motos.
Here’s what has to happen for the top riders to be crowned the champion in the 250 and 450 Classes.
For Tom Vialle and Levi Kitchen, they’ll need to claim the overall win and then have Haiden Deegan fourth, fifth, or worse, but a top three overall finish by Deegan will make him a two-time SuperMotocross World Champion.
It really is “winner take all” in the 450 Class between Hunter Lawrence, Chase Sexton, and Jett Lawrence. Nine points separate the three key contenders, and whoever comes out ahead will get the million-dollar payout. Something wild would have to happen for Eli Tomac to make up the 21-point deficit, but given the high-stakes of the triple-multiplier and recent results, it’s not entirely out of the question.
