Everyone has a different take on the way to ride moto. Putting down laps at the track aboard a spotless “factory edition” motorcycle in a matching head to toe kit might your thing. Perhaps you prefer testing your skills by climbing over obstacles, with enough supplies tucked into a fanny pack and jacket to keep you on the trail for hours. Maybe you wait all year for those few weeks in the winter when the hills are prepped by mother nature, when you can live out Crusty Demon fantasies on a well-worn bike and dirty gear. It’s always a good time, no matter what you like or how you do it.

Justin Mulford takes full advantage of the creative freedom offered by moto. The California native has solid skills on a bike, thanks to his past life as an amateur hotshot, but skate and snowboarding are what really influence his riding and this new project with Fox Racing. “Dead Man Walking” shows Mulford on his Honda CRF450R in places seldom seen in a moto video, shot like a skate video and edited by an artist a few days into a “free your mind trip.”

Mulford’s creativity comes across in the gear he wears and how the bike looks. One clip might be just be a T-shirt/jeans/boots/helmet, the next a color coordinated setup from Fox Racing’s catalog. The plastics on the bike are basically the underside of a skate deck, dialed with race numbers or cluttered with random stickers.

The seven-minute edit is a mix of everything. Fast and flashy, gritty and shaky. Some will love it, others won’t. It’s how Mulford sees moto.
