Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha amateur racer Jarrett Frye came out to the Amsoil Swapmoto Race Series for round two of the West Coast Open at Perris Raceway, and the Maryland native absolutely destroyed every moto that he competed in, as he swept the 250 Intermediate and Schoolboy classes with ease. Using the Swapmoto Live Race Series as a warm-up for the California Classic, Frye says that aside from the traffic, SoCal isn’t that bad…
It’s always a treat when a top-level National rider comes out to race with us. What brings you out to the Swapmoto Race Series today?
I just wanted to come out and get some gate drops before the California Classic, and my team manager Wil Hahn suggested I come out and race with you guys. I know my teammate Matthew LeBlanc has been to a few of your races and had a good time, too.
You’re a long way from Maryland. Are you staying in SoCal for a while?
Right now I am out here full time. I’ve been living out here since December of last year,
You’re not staying at Wil’s house, are you?
(Laughs) No!
What’s it like being an East Coast guy living in SoCal?
It’s not too bad. The traffic is pretty bad but I like it otherwise. It’s not too bad. I don’t’ get the traffic caused by the poppies, though. (Laughs)
How has the Amateur National Circuit been treating you recently?
It’s been pretty good. I won at Daytona and at the Freestone Spring Nationals recently. Looking forward to the Cal Classic that is coming up soon, too.
Is it a big advantage, equipment-wise, to be on a team like Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha on the amateur circuit?
Oh, yeah, for sure it is. Even just having a mechanic to help keep the bikes running great is a huge help. But the team bikes are so fast and perfectly set up…
Have you ever had a chance to throw a leg over one of the pro team bikes? Like Colt or Dylan’s?
(Laughs) No, I haven’t!
What are your goals for 2019?
I want to win Loretta’s in the B class and make a good transition into the A class.
