When the COVID-19 pandemic caused the Monster Energy Supercross Championship to grind to a screeching halt, two-time Supercross Champion Chad Reed stepped back, took inventory of the situation, and decided to sell the fleet of 2020 Honda CRF450R race bikes he and the Mountain Motorsports team had assembled. With the uncertainty that lied ahead, Reed figured it would be wise to liquidate in case racing didn’t resume, and in the meantime bought a KTM 250 SX two-stroke to play ride on. When word came that Supercross would resume and complete itself with seven races held over a three-week period in Salt Lake City, Reed figured he was already comfortable on the KTM’s steel chassis and built up a 450 SX-F to ride out the final season of his motorcycle career on. Today, along with several other of the sport’s stars, Reed pounded out some practice laps at Flying Iron Horse Ranch before this Sunday’s 15th round of the Monster Energy Supercross Series.
