2020 LORETTA LYNN’S MOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

The start of the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is days away and unfortunately, Colt Nichols has confirmed that he will be absent from the starting line. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider announced on Monday that there were some delays in his recovery from the June hand injury and that doctors have advised him to take time off so that the bone can continue to heal.

This injury stems from the last-lap Heat Race crash that Nichols and Chase Sexton had at the 2020 Salt Lake City Seven Supercross in June. The two riders collided when Nichols attempted to block the inside line at the entrance of a corner while Sexton tripled out of the proceeding rhythm lane, and the full force of the GEICO Honda landed on Nichols’ hand. Both managed to finish the race, but Nichols opted out of that night’s race and saw doctors as soon as he got home from Utah.

The two riders talked soon after the crash and agreed it was a “racing incident” and that there were no hard feelings. Press play on the video below to see the collision.

Surgery was necessary to plate the fracture and Nichols used the delayed start to the Pro Motocross tour as his chance heal up. Unfortunately, Nichols has said that the bone growth has been slower than expected and that doctors feel it would be risky to race right now.

The nine-round series starts this weekend at the 2020 Loretta Lynn’s Motocross and will run a quick, condensed tour around the country until early October.

Been pretty quiet on here lately but thought I would give everybody an update on my injury from Utah. Had surgery to fix the broken bone in my hand and started doing everything I could to make the first round of outdoors. I pushed the limits after surgery to try and get strength and healing to the bone but it just wasn’t quite enough. After visiting the doctor last week I still didn’t have enough bone growth to feel comfortable riding or lining up to race, it was pretty risky if I did so. Had to reevaluate and change the goal but I’m doing everything I can to heal it up so I can get back to what I love. Going to try and be more active on here in the meantime, #loveyours
