When Ryan Dungey retired from professional racing, there were many questions as to what the future would hold for the multi-time champion. Very young and with plenty of money in the bank, Dungey’s options were limitless and he stayed active with KTM while balancing life with wife Lindsay. So it was a huge surprise in December when GEICO Honda announced that Dungey had signed on to become a partial owner in the factory-backed 250 class race team. Everyone has been eager to see what RD5 would look like on a red bike and on Friday, the team released a video of his first laps on the CRF450R.
Dungey’s time away from the starting line hasn’t hurt his riding and the clips of his laps around Fox Raceway make it clear that he could easily run the pace during the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship (that’s not going to happen, though, so don’t get your hopes up). The young roster of riders on the team have an excellent mentor to learn from and it’ll be interesting to see how they develop under his guidance.
