When Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM racer Jessy Nelson suffered paralyzing injuries in August of 2016, the entire motorcycle industry was devastated. A promising young racer with an infectious personality, Nelson is a friend to everyone who’s met him. Today, Nelson is enjoying a newfound career in racing in a factory Polaris UTV, has a beautiful wife, and is enjoying life as he always has.
Immediately after Nelson’s injury, the motocross community banded together to help him in his recovery. In addition to the Road2Recovery Fund – which you can still contribute to, to aid Jessy in his rehab efforts – several of his friends organized fundraisers. Jessy’s former TLD teammates Christian Craig and Cole Seely organized a Ride 4 Jessy road bike ride that routed participants up and down the Santa Ana River Trail. Hundreds of riders, industry people, and race fans showed up to participate, and it was truly a remarkable day put on by two of Nelson’s good friends. Every participant received a goody bag with cool treats inside, and my favorite were these custom-made Stance socks. complete with Jessy’s starting-line race face! Stance entered the motocross market in a big way several years prior and even developed what were our favorite motocross knee brace socks. Sadly, they seem to have lost interest in motocross, and I am unable to find the MX socks on its website…
I could never get myself to actually wear my Jessy Nelson socks. First of all, it would seem kinda creepy to have my buddy peering up and me, but mostly because I had them pinned to my office wall as a souvenir. I will keep these forever.
