This weekend, round four of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship visits State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Tomorrow’s race will also be the first Triple Crown Supercross of the season, in which the 250 and 450 classes will each compete in three main events. All three 250 main events will be 10 minutes long and pay equal points to the overall results, while the 450 class races will be 12 minutes long and also be scored the same. The SMX Next class – formerly known as Supercross Futures – will make its debut in Glendale, with 22 amateur racers doing battle in a single 10-minute main event.
Of the active racers, Eli Tomac is the most successful in the Arizona market with five wins, followed by red-plate holder Ken Roczen, who has three. Now-retired legends Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart each have four. Speaking of Roczen’s red plate, this is the first time since 2015 that Suzuki has held control of the championship point lead and this was – coincidentally – also with Ken Roczen after he won the Anaheim One season kickoff with the RCH Suzuki team.
Many of the top racers gathered at State Farm Stadium for today’s media day activities, so we spoke with as many as possible and captured some riding and pit information for this installment of the SML Newsbreak, Presented by Yamalube. Enjoy!
