Motorcycle manufacturers, apparel companies, and hard part producers all spend considerable portions of their budgets on sponsorships for the top riders, so this breakdown gives an idea of how important brand recognition is at the highest level of our sport. For this summary, I focused on the top-20 riders in the 450 Class championship standings for Supercross and Pro Motocross. The first recap under each rider’s name goes over the motorcycle manufacturer, suspension, handlebars, exhaust, and tires; the second covers gear, helmets, goggles, boots, and when applicable, energy drinks and neck braces.
In the 450 class, riders are able to work out deals from different companies for a look that’s all their own (Wilson-Anderson-Webb-Tomac-etc) while others will score a massive paycheck from one company that puts them in the brand from head to toe (Roczen, Cianciarulo). Although team-wide apparel deals aren’t as common in the 450 Class as they are the 250 Class, there are still a few like Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/WPS/KTM, Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing, and SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts/Honda that have exclusive deals for gear, helmets, and goggles.

Here are a few things that we noticed in the results…
– Head-to-toe apparel deals are gaining traction in the 450 Class through Fox Racing and Leatt.
– Brands like FLY Racing, Alpinestars, UFO, Thor, and Troy Lee Designs are listed under multiple categories, a sign of how each company’s catalog offer grows from year to year.
– Cooper Webb seemed to have the most popular setup of all, as sponsors like KTM/WP/Renthal/Dunlop/Bell/100%/Thor/Alpinestars were all at the top of their respective categories.
– No top-20 rider in the Pro Motocross results used a neck brace during the 12-race summer series.
