Marshal Weltin won’t be driving to the races this summer. The journeyman racer, fresh off a fifteenth place in the 450 Class at Hangtown, was ready to head to the next ten rounds of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship as a full-blown privateer, with stops at random money races along the way.

That changed when the Twisted Tea/Progressive/HEP Motorsports/Suzuki needed a fill-in for Justin Bogle; the rider and team agreed that a break from racing was much-needed after an eventful start to the year.

A look at the Hangtown results shows that Weltin is the best choice for a full-in. He scored points in three of the four motos, and the 16-15 scores were the best by anyone not part of a factory-supported or generally-organized team.

We grabbed a few minutes with Marshal when he first arrived to the HEP Motorsports rig and discussed the changes, the two days of testing he got on the RM-Z, and the opportunity to put in results as the team plans to race the AMA SX/AMA MX/FIM SX championships.
