Max Anstie To Miss Start Of 2020 Supercross Season

On Christmas Eve, H.E.P. Motorsports Suzuki team announced that Max Anstie, a new addition to the team for the upcoming year, will miss the start of 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Series due to an ankle injury. Per the team, Anstie already had an issue with his left ankle and the preseason testing put too much strain on it, which then required surgery to correct. With the procedure now complete the British rider will recover as quickly but properly as possible, with intent to line up at a later Supercross round and then the full 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
This is a setback for Anstie, who won motos in the MXGP class during the 2019 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship but battled injuries (a punctured lung forced him to sit out the final rounds) and was not re-signed by the Standing Construct outfit, which in turn became the factory team for the recently reorganized GasGas brand. Anstie contacted a number of teams in the United States and Europe for 2020, had a test with the Star Racing squad with hopes of a 250 ride, and then signed with the H.E.P. Motorsports Suzuki team for the full SX and MX schedule on a 450 alongside Kyle Cunningham and Adam Enticknap.
It’s been years since Anstie last raced a true Supercross (he did only one season, the 250 West Coast region in 2010) but with H.E.P. Motorsports Suzuki extending their program into the outdoors, many expect to see the British rider as a top-five rider through the summer with a shot at moto wins.
A timeline for Anstie’s return to racing is not yet set, but we will share more news as it becomes available, likely at the opening round in less than two weeks.
