A rut can be helpful and a challenge. If it’s free of holes or hooks, you can use the rut as a slot-car style line all the way around. Be careful not to let the front or rear wheel climb out.
Brake early and coast into the corner. Locking up the binders as you enter or hit the middle of the turn can bind the bike up and break your momentum.
Look ahead. When you’re entering the turn, set your sights on the apex, which will help you find a line and follow it around. When you reach the midpoint of the turn, look toward the exit and what lies ahead in the next lane.
Position yourself in the middle of the bike. This will help the balance as you enter and exit, which should eliminate front-end washouts or rear-end skids. It also makes it easier to get your inside leg up and pointed in the right direction for stability.
Roll on the throttle as your release the clutch. You should be ready to speed things up by the time you reach the apex of the corner. Hammering the gas can cause the rear-wheel to break traction and the bike to step out.
