A few weeks back, we made the trip to San Bernardino Airport for obligatory media day to build interest for the upcoming Evel Live 2 event that will take on Sunday evening. Last year’s incredibly successful launch featured Travis Pastrana replicating three of Evel Knievel’s most iconic stunts aboard an Indian motorcycle, so History Channel and Nitro Circus wanted to up the level of difficulty a bit with two well-known motorcycle riders and a trio of world record-breaking attempts. Unfortunately, Axell Hodges’ planned 375-foot plus launch has been scrapped after a practice crash left the talented rider with two badly injured ankles, but Vicki Golden plans to fulfill her stunt and will blast through 13 walls of fire in an attempt to set a new record.
Golden has been a close friend of the SML staff for years, from her days on the WMX racing tour, her successful run that made her the first woman to qualify for a Supercross event, and then her shift to freestyle motocross and free riding. But the last year has been incredibly difficult for Golden, because crash at an FMX demo in Ohio resulted in a shattered heel and serious complications. Compartment syndrome took over the injury while Golden was in the hospital and if not for the fast actions of a specialist, it’s likely that she would have faced life-changing damage to her leg. Now completely healed, Golden is ready to take on Sunday’s stunt and build her career to new levels. Have a listen to our interview from the media day; it’s a bit lengthy, but the last seven minutes are very telling and will make anyone become a fan of Golden.
