In the middle of the muck that was the 2019 Spring Creek Motocross, we learned that the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team had re-upped contracts with Dean Wilson and Michael Mosiman for the 2020 season. This is big news for both, as their current deals with the Husky squad were set to run out at the end of this season. The announcement came in the form of two social media posts from Team Manager Bobby Hewitt; we’ll have an interview later with Hewitt that discusses his hiring strategy later in the week.
2019 has been a breakout year for Mosiman, as the third-year pro logged career-best results in the 250 West Coast region of the Monster Energy Supercross Series (battles with front-runners Ferrandis and Cianciarulo, plus a third place in the 250 East-West Showdown at the Las Vegas finale were the highlights) and has posted top-10 results in multiple motos through the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. “I don’t know if something clicked as much as it feels like natural and normal progression. I always knew this was in me and that I was capable of this, so for me to get here is not a huge surprise. For it to come at the time it did, I think that surprised the team and maybe myself a little bit, just how much I improved in Supercross,” he explained of his recent results to his in a feature posted last week. With the new two-year deal, Mosiman will remain on the FC 250 through the 2021 season.
Mosiman’s signing is a long-term play for the team’s 250 program, which will include Thomas Covington and an already-signed but not yet announced 250 class veteran, plus rookie Jalek Swoll (Swoll will make his pro debut with the team at the 2019 Unadilla Motocross).
For Dean Wilson the July confirmation of a factory contract is a massive relief, as he’s spent the start of past seasons as a well-supported privateer that then winds up on the factory team when the opportunities have occurred. Brought back under the tent when Jason Anderson and Zach Osborne had to miss rounds of the Supercross with injuries, Wilson was promised his place on the team through the rest of 2019 during the final stages of the indoor season. Wilson missed the early part of the summer due to a shoulder injury suffered at the Denver Supercross, returned at RedBud, and has gone 12-7-15-12 in the four motos run.
This is a major development for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team’s 450 front; Wilson will be alongside Jason Anderson and Zach Osborne for a full-time three-rider 450 team.
Who’s got Mosiman for a championship next year!? Sure seems like he’s gotta be one of the favorites…
